A Southwest Airlines flight from Texas to Florida was forced to make an emergency landing when a girl reportedly clobbered her male traveling companion with a cell cellphone — which then “exploded.”
Flight 4699 from Dallas to Fort Lauderdale was diverted to Pensacola Wednesday after the woman’s makeshift weapon caught alight, Community 10 News documented.
“She was beating him with the mobile phone and the cellular phone exploded and caught on fire,” passenger Katie Engleson, of Parkland, instructed the station.
“Everyone type of went insane and then all of a sudden we see smoke and I heard the words and phrases ‘fire’ and then following to us there was the item virtually smoking cigarettes,” she explained. “It was unquestionably extremely, quite scary.”
Adult men on the plane dumped water on the mobile telephone, resulting in it to smolder, she explained.
Footage from the incident shows legislation enforcement officers investigating — but it was not immediately obvious if the guy and woman had been charged with a crime.
A rep for Southwest Airlines mentioned the travellers, who ended up touring together, obtained off the plane in Pensacola.
“A Southwest flight functioning from Dallas Love Subject safely diverted to Pensacola Worldwide Airport on Wednesday afternoon because of to a dispute concerning two travellers touring jointly that resulted in a damaged mobile cellular phone which smoldered and was positioned into a battery containment bag by our Flight Attendants,” the airline mentioned in a statement.
“After the two passengers exited the plane in Pensacola, the flight ongoing to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. We appreciate the endurance, cooperation, and guidance of the customers onboard today.”
